Books that I read or I have recently read (in English):
in English
Bill Bryson "A short history of nearly everything"
The author (from Great Britain) does what you always wished your science teacher would do: make science understandable and fun, even the most difficult bits... In my opinion this book is an absolute must for all people who want to keep their brain sparkling from time to time.

Ernest Hemingway "The Garden of Eden"
A posthumous work, possibly Hemingway's finest achievement. This tender love story about a torrid triangular relationship is unlike any of his better known books. A surprisingly modern novel in which the famously 'macho' author gets in touch with his feminine side, it caused quite a stir in literary circles when first published in 1986. Not least for its erotic hedonistic content.
Simon & Schuster New York (purchased in Hemingway House, Key West, Florida, USA, 2002)

Candace B. Pert "Molecules of Emotion"
Pert claims that "God is neuropeptide." Even if it is only a provocative statement, she is trying to explain this provocation in the book. Nothing is so exciting as science.
A Touchstone Book Published by Simon & Schuster
in English
David Lodge: "Therapy" ;
Something to look forward to ? Is the middle of one's life only the beginning. David Lodge has created a hysterical novel about something as boring as middle aged male. Keep dreaming and Lodge might be right.

in English
David Lodge: "The British Museum Is Falling Down" ;
Vatican Rulette or pitful dilemma of Catholics refraining from the Pill:
sex or no sex ? Simply witty. And very British.

F. Jacob: " Of Flies, Mice & Men"; [Deutsch: "Die Maus, die Fliege und der Mensch. Über die moderne Genforschung."]
Gets you into the world of molecular biology and genetics in the same easy way as Hawking's books introduce you to cosmology. Finally you have a feeling that, as a matter of fact, they tell you - Hawking and Jacobi - their own side of the same story. The sort of book that makes you feel intelligent without really understanding why.
Read directly in French if you can !
There is also a German translation. Though no Polish, yet.
in English
K. Follet: "The third twin";
Eeat and drink BEFORE you start to read it... unless you are already on a diet.
